GR8DESIGNS is a documentary production agency based in Jharkhand. We make films that rest on research, interviews and observed action, then finish them as watchable stories for government departments, educational institutions, companies and social enterprises. This page is only about documentary work. If you need a two-minute brand film or a training module, those have their own pages. Documentary is a different brief: facts have to be right, people have to be treated fairly, and the film still has to hold attention from first frame to last.

Our registered office and production suite sit in Adityapur Industrial Area, Jamshedpur, near the NIT back gate. We also work from a Ranchi branch on Kanke Road. Crews shoot across Jharkhand and, when the story needs it, in other Indian cities. That mix matters. Many of the films that come to us are about a plant, a department, a district programme or a community that cannot be faked on a stock-footage timeline. You need people who will travel, wait for permission, and still come back with usable sound and picture.

Who commissions this work, and why

Corporate and institutional documentaries usually cover a company’s history, a leadership change, a CSR programme or a plant story that sales teams cannot explain in slides. Event-based documentaries record a festival, a summit or a public programme so the organisation has a film after the banners come down. Social-impact and public-information films explain a scheme, a health or education message, or a civic process to people who will never sit through a 40-page PDF. Personal and biographical films are slower: archives, family interviews, stills, and a structure that does not turn a life into advertising.

Lengths run from a five-minute web documentary to a longer festival or broadcast cut. We do not force every job into one template. A departmental film that must clear legal and protocol is edited differently from a character-led short. The common thread is that GR8DESIGNS owns the craft steps: research, treatment, interviews, cinematography, edit, graphics, voice-over and delivery.

How a documentary is made here

Concept and research come first. We ask what must be true on screen, who must appear, what cannot be filmed, and which archives already exist. For government and PSU work this often includes letterheads, location lists and a named coordinating officer. For companies it includes brand rules, safety inductions and who can speak on camera.

Scripting follows as a treatment, not as marketing copy. Interview questions are written so answers can be cut. A shooting plan lists days, units, interiors, exteriors and backup indoor options for monsoon or night-shift plants.

Production is interviews, observational filming, stills and archive capture. We record spare audio. We note spellings of names, designations and Hindi or regional terms on the day, not three weeks later in the edit.

Cinematography covers field and studio. The Jamshedpur suite includes a green screen stage for maps, inserts and controlled interviews when a location is too noisy or too restricted. It is a tool, not a default look. Most documentaries still live or die on real rooms, real light and real faces.

Edit, graphics and voice-over turn rushes into a film: picture edit, titles, maps, lower-thirds, VO and mix. Delivery can mean a web master, an event loop, a broadcast file and a subtitled or dubbed version. We only run the steps the brief needs. A twelve-minute institutional film does not get a festival-length grade unless you ask for one and pay for the days.

Evidence, not slogans

GR8DESIGNS already publishes documentary work in the portfolio at /portfolio/documentary/. When you add this page, embed two or three official YouTube cuts under a heading such as “Selected documentary films”. Write the project name, year, location and our role (production, cinematography, edit) only where the client allows it.

The documentary Jharkhand Election received Best Documentary Short Film at the MEI International Film Festival 2025 and Best Documentary at the 6th Nirmal Pandey Smriti Film Festival 2025. Link those facts to the awards page rather than repeating unsourced lists. Do not add ratings, client logos or festival laurels in schema unless they appear on the page as real text and images.

We will tell you if the brief is actually a corporate film or a training video. That honesty saves both sides a rewrite.

Studios help when you need VO, podcast-style interviews or pickups. They do not replace field time. Jharkhand stories often involve plants, campuses, forests, offices and public grounds. We plan access, not just camera lists.
