Government Scheme Awareness Films for Women & Child Development, Jharkhand

GR8DESIGNS produced a series of government scheme awareness films for the Women, Child Development & Social Security Department, Government of Jharkhand. The films explain One Stop Centres, the Poshan Abhiyaan smartphone rollout, and the Poshan Pakwan cooking competition in plain Hindi.

The brief

A welfare scheme only works when the people it serves know it exists. The Women, Child Development & Social Security Department (WCD&SS) runs schemes for women, mothers, and young children across all of Jharkhand. Many of the people they serve live in villages and watch video on a phone, not a television.

The department needed short films that explain one scheme at a time, in simple Hindi. Each film had to say what the scheme offers, who it is for, and how to use it.

Our approach

We treated each scheme as its own short film rather than one long promotional video. A woman looking for help, an anganwadi worker, and a parent need different messages. Separate short films let the department share the right one with the right audience.

Sakhi – One Stop Centre

The One Stop Centre scheme began nationally on 1 April 2015 under what is now Mission Shakti. It gives women facing violence health care, legal aid, temporary shelter, police help, and counselling in one place. In Jharkhand, the department runs One Stop Centres in all 24 districts.

Our film, *Sakhi – Har Mahila Ka Saccha Saathi*, explains three things: what a One Stop Centre is, how a woman can get help there, and how the scheme helps women stay safe and independent. The campaign line, "every woman's true companion", carries the film.

Poshan Abhiyaan: the smartphone rollout

On 26 March 2025, Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren handed smartphones to 37,810 anganwadi sevikas. The phones carry the Poshan Tracker and SAMAR apps. Sevikas use them to register beneficiaries and enter data in real time. That data supports nutrition services for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children up to six years old.

We filmed the distribution ceremony and the reason behind it. The film shows a sevika with her new phone and explains how the apps make her work faster and more transparent.

Poshan Pakwan: a cooking competition

During Poshan Pakhwada 2025, the department held a cooking competition for local sahayikas. Entries had to use local ingredients with less salt, less sugar, and less oil. The dishes included madua roti, kodo rice, phutkal saag, sahjan, basi pitha, gondli, and chhilka roti. District-level winners received ₹21,000.

Our film follows the competition and lets the winners talk about their recipes. It turns a nutrition message into a story about pride in Jharkhand's own food.

The results

The department publishes the films on its own YouTube channel and shares them on its social media. By October 2026, the Poshan Abhiyaan film had passed 16,000 views. The Sakhi – One Stop Centre film had passed 10,000 views, and the Poshan Pakwan film more than 2,000.

For a department film in Hindi, explaining a specific scheme, that is a strong reach. More importantly, each film can be sent straight to the people who need it: a link for a district officer, a clip for an anganwadi group, or a post for the public.

Why government scheme awareness films work

Good government scheme awareness films share a few habits. They explain one scheme per film. They use the language people speak at home. They show real workers and real beneficiaries instead of stock footage. And they end with what to do next.

We applied the same approach in our voter awareness campaign for the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand. When a story needs more depth, we use documentary filmmaking to follow it further.
